Dairy-Free + Gluten-Free Report
Dairy-Free: use a plant-based butter and sub the cheesy topping with your favorite dairy-free cheese alternative.
Gluten-Free: omit the worcestershire sauce, use gluten-free breadcrumbs, and gluten-free 1-to-1 baking flour.
60 Minute Weeknight Dinner
This recipe comes together in approx. 60 minutes, but if you do a little meal prep ahead of time it will go even faster! Otherwise, this is a great Sunday Supper recipe!
Kid Report (Did My Kids Eat This)
Yes, they didn’t love all the onions but it was easy for them to pick around them and enjoy the cheesy meatballs with mashed potatoes!
Meal Prep (Set Yourself Up for Success)
Meatballs: option to make the meatball mixture, form meatballs, or even bake them ahead of time. You will still need about 45ish minutes to make the caramelized onions (that’s when the meatballs typically bake), but it might feel nice to just get them done.
Shallots + Onions: these could be cut and stored in the fridge until ready to cook.
Mashed Potatoes: feel free to also make these and store in the fridge until ready or make Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes - an easy way to set them and forget them.
Alright let’s dive into some step-by-step photos so you can see all the key steps and then the recipe follows!
